Kolkata, 18 September 2021: Priyamvada Birla Aravind Eye Hospital (MP Birla Group), situated in the Belle Vue Clinic campus, organized a free eye camp for Kumartuli artisans today, following reports that many of them are suffering from various eye ailments.
More than 150 artisans were treated at the camp. Free cataract surgery will be conducted on the detected patients at Priyamvada Birla Aravind Eye Hospital later. Free spectacles will be distributed among the ones in need.
“The eye of the Durga idol catches attention more than anything else and drawing the eye requires extraordinary finesse. As making idols demands attention to intricate details, the artisans strain their eyes which affects their vision, and by early-50s many of them suffer from short-sightedness. Hence, we decided to conduct this Free Eye Check Up Camp and subsequently will provide cataract surgery to the affected persons free of cost”, said Dr Jayangshu Sengupta, Chief Medical Officer, Priyamvada Birla Aravind Eye Hospital.
Priyamvada Birla Aravind Eye Hospital, incidentally, provided uninterrupted services to patients & arranged for free transport facilities as well even during the pandemic peak period.
