Kolkata: Since the country entered the second wave of COVID, Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital (JIMSH), hosted a virtual Press Conference with the medical professionals to discuss the important step required to be taken by public and hospital bodies to combat second wave of COVID efficiently. Dr. Biswaroop Mukherjee, Associate Professor, General Medicine, JIMSH, Dr. Kaushik Hazra, MD – Assistant Professor, General Medicine, JIMSH, Dr. V. Lakshman, MS – Associate Professor, General Surgery, JIMSH, Dr. Debapriya Banerjee, Senior Consultant JIMSH along with Mr. Jagannath Gupta, Chairman of JIMHS, Mr. K.K Gupta, Vice Chairman of JIMSH and Shayantani Datta Manager- Operations and Quality Assurance were present during the virtual discussion to share some insights on the prevailing situation today.

Due to the pandemic the world has come on a stretcher alongside the patients. Not just the healthcare industry, but even professionals from various other fields, business people, teachers, as well as students are facing challenges. Second wave is presumably stronger and might impact the whole structure even worse. Where the states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka are already hard hit by the second wave and total number of active cases is around 5, 80,000 in the country, people of West Bengal are actively taking part in election campaigns and rallies in large numbers, defying all social distancing norms. This carelessness amidst political rallies and campaigns is bound to escalate the spread of infection unless taken care of.

While addressing the Media, Mr. K.K Gupta, Vice Chairman of JIMSH said, “We take full responsibility in taking proactive steps to modify our hospital facilities. No self medication, always consult your family physician when suffering from loss of smell, diarrhea and weakness. We, as a frontline institution, are grateful to be able to provide assistance and treatment to our best capacity even during the upsurge of infection. If every healthcare organization prepares for the same, I am sure together we can tackle the second wave smoothly.”

Dr. Biswaroop Mukherjee, Associate Professor, General Medicine JIMSH said, “It is must to remind people about the importance of social distancing, sanitizing and using masks every time they are out in public. Campaigning for election has overpowered the fear of the general public which will result in rapid spread as days pass by government should start imposing strict social distancing norms alongside the campaigning.
