CREDO Center Of Excellence Launched To Provide Customised Skill Enhancement Initiatives With The Goal Of Strengthening The Apparel Industry

    Kolkata,6th April,2024: The CREDO Center of Excellence, an endeavour spearheaded by the Apparel, Made-Ups, Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC) Under Ministry Of Skill Development And Entrepreneurship, Government Of India, was launched today by Padmashee, Dr A. Sakthivel, Chairman of Apparel Made Ups Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council and Reverend Father Dr Dominic Savio, Principal St. Xaviers College Kolkata (Autonomous) & President, St. Xaviers College Alumni Association in the presence of Ms Smritee Dwivedi, Senior Director, Apparel Made Ups Home, Furnishing Sector Skill Council, Dr Adity Yadav, Deputy Director, Apparel Made Ups Home, Furnishing Sector Skill Council, Mr Vipul Wahal, Joint Director, Apparel Made Ups Home, Furnishing Sector Skill Council, Actress, Ms Sauraseni Maitra, Mr Firdausul Hasan, Managing Director, Friends Communications, Ms Ushoshi Sengupta, Former Miss Universe & Global Ambassador of CREDO and Mr Pinaki Roy Chowdhury, Trustee, CREDO Foundation.  To mark the occasion, CREDO Centre Of Excellence introduced a series of specialised skill development programs aimed at boosting the Apparel Industry.

The programs offered by the CREDO Center of Excellence are designed to facilitate mass skill development and empowerment, providing participants with nationally-recognized certifications aligned with the National Education Policy. For the industry, these programs will lead them to have access to a pool of sector-specialized trained human resources. For educational institutions, they signify the delivery of relevant skill development programs, empowering students with nationally accepted certifications. And for participants, they offer high-speed access to skill-based training and entrepreneurship opportunities.

“I am pleased to announce our partnership with CREDO Foundation Kolkata to build a new Center Of Excellence (CoE). The goal of this program is to support innovation and skill development in the home furnishings and apparel manufacturing sectors. The CoE’s primary responsibility is to improve the abilities of workers in the clothing, makeup, and home furnishings industries by offering top-notch training and development programs. By means of this partnership, AMHSSC hopes to close the skills gap in the sector and provide employees with the know-how needed to flourish in their positions”, said Padmashree, Dr A. Sakthivel, Chairman of Apparel Made Ups Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council.

The hybrid learning model of this program, blending online studies with hands-on offline skilling, embodies a modern and innovative educational approach, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all learners. It signifies a forward-thinking response to the needs and aspirations of today’s youth. By providing cutting-edge training programs, we aim to empower workers and drive innovation in these sectors. This (CoE) will play a pivotal role in advancing the skill development landscape in India. The training will not simply empower individuals with relevant skills but also contribute to the overall growth and competitiveness of the sector. The CoE will offer a range of training programs, including technical skills training, soft skills development, and managerial training. Additionally, it will serve as a hub for research and innovation in the apparel, made-ups, and home furnishing sectors, fostering collaboration between industry experts, academia, and government agencies. The CoE’s collaborations with industry partners, educational institutions, and government bodies ensure that its programs are aligned with industry requirements and global best practices. This strategic approach not only enhances the employability of individuals but also fosters innovation and excellence in the sector”, added Dr Sakthivel.


“One of the flagship programs offered by the CREDO Center of Excellence is the Fashion Design and Business Startup Programme, which features India’s first fashion business startup incubation program. This innovative initiative aims to nurture and launch the next generation of fashion entrepreneurs within a span of 12 months. Participants have the opportunity to collaborate, launch, and generate revenues as part of a motivated team, benefiting from a shared ecosystem with no additional capital costs”, said Ms Ushoshi Sengupta, Former Miss Universe & Global Ambassador of CREDO.

The CREDO Centre of Excellence also offers a hybrid Fashion Design & Entrepreneurship program format, combining online and offline components to accommodate the diverse needs of participants. The extended program, ranging from 6 to 12 months, includes a minimum of 6 months of rigorous hands-on practical training in fashion design and entrepreneurship, culminating in specialized fashion business incubation. Digitization of theory subjects will make access to knowledge easy and at the comfort of the learners as per their best suitable time & convenience. Whereas, the Class room experience is focused towards hands-on skilling, design & product development, business development, group activities, promotional & marketing activities. Market linkage with Entrepreneurship Hand holding through unlimited access to the CREDO Design, Advisory, Manufacturing, Retail, Online E-Commerce & Industrial network is what makes the Fashion incubation model unique. Industrial apprenticeship forms an integral part of the programs offered by CREDO to provide relevant and much needed experience to the graduating students.
 
Participants would undergo comprehensive training encompassing various aspects of fashion design and entrepreneurship. From gaining insights into the fashion industry to practical hands-on training using state-of-the-art machinery, the program equips entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the competitive fashion landscape.
